“WE ARE NOW INCOME GENERATORS”
SAYS MRTT LEARNERS EMPLOYED AT HYDRA ARC
The Workplace and Incubation Programme of MRTT assists learners by giving them an opportunity to improve their skills and build their confidence for the workplace. The programme runs for a period of 4 months where learners are placed in the working environment to strengthen their skill.
Through the Workplace and Incubation Programme MRTT has built a network of partnerships with companies such as Hydra-Arc where MRTT learners have been received as part of learners’ work placement training. Hydra-Arc did not just afford these learners an opportunity to sharpen their skills but has also been employing the learners since 2016. The most recent group that the company has employed has signed their contracts in February 2022. This indeed shows that MRTT provides its learners with an employable skill through its training.
“We have gained more knowledge and exposure; we are now confident in what we do. We can be taken anywhere and we will excellently deliver. We are not just good at what we do but we are now income generators, and we can provide for our families,” says the young employees of Hydra Arc.
“Because of MRTT Hospitality and Tourism Academy we have become confident in the kitchen, we now know how to cook for big groups. We confidently recommend MRTT to aspiring learners who would love to pursue careers in the Hospitality and Tourism Industry” shared the two MRTT HTA trained chefs.
When asked to advice the current MRTT learners they said, “we advise the learners to commit themselves and not to take such an opportunity for granted. If the training offers stipend, no matter how little the stipend may be, learners must appreciate that and work hard”.

The machine shop houses a horizontal boring mill that consists of two milling stations, that can handle 40- and 60-tons work pieces. The stations travel along opposite ends of a 33-meter common rail. Allowing two independent machining operations to be completed on the same work piece simultaneously. This enables us to perform all turning, drilling, boring and milling in-house.
Dear Colleagues,
Happy new year to you all. I hope you celebrated the start of 2022 in good spirits with family and friends. Now that we’re a few days into the new year, it’s good to look ahead and think about what this year may bring us. But first, a quick look back.
2021 was quite a year for all of us at Hydra Arc. We’ve been through many developments, in sometimes less than favorable circumstances. But we’ve also achieved a huge amount. Within our Industry we have made good progress and completing a Sasol Shutdown successfully.
Of course, there’s still a lot of work ahead. With the challenge of the Omicron virus it's going to be tough, in short, the current circumstances are all quite challenging to work in. Looking forward to one of the biggest Shutdown this year, preparations and planning will be paramount to the success of the Shutdown. Within welding and mechanical space, we need to launch a new strategy and carefully executed on it throughout the year. In other clients outside Sasol, we must combine our efforts to maximize opportunities, so that we become a leading company in this sector in all what we always do and doing it Safely. But no matter what the circumstances are, we must not lose sight of our priority, to be strong and financially sustainable company that put the customer at the heart of everything we do. Showing our customers how we can support them in their financial needs by providing advice when needed, flexibility where possible and a range of clear and simple solutions to their challenges.
It’s important for us to use our time wisely and move forward as decisively and swiftly as we can in 2022. That will only be possible with your continued dedication and teamwork. Primarily in your own spaces, but equally across the whole group. We need to continue to work together to create successful service to our clients. So, I encourage all of us in our decision making to evaluate not only what is best for our part of space in the organization, but also the potential impact on other parts and on the Group as a whole.
The past years had a significant impact on all of us, but I would like to thank you all for your significant support and dedication during these challenging times. The year ahead will bring its own challenges, but I’m sure by working together, keeping focused on our priorities, and putting our customers first we can realize our ambitions. These will certainly continue to be my priorities, and I am convinced I can count on you to do the same.
